The gnarled and rugged trees in this picture are called Ohia Lehua. They produce pompom-like blossoms commonly know as "the rain flower." The trees are indigenous to the Hawaiian Islands and are a common source of nectar to the dwindling population of endangered Hawaiian birds known as Hawaiian honeycreepers.
